Chiefs and Indians

When it comes to Chiefs and Indians I'd say there are four groups of people:

1. Chiefs
These are the people who want to be in charge. They like making decisions. They don't necessarily require you to agree with their decision and they can handle things when it all goes wrong.

2. Indians
By-and-large most people would fall into this category. They are happy for someone else to make the decisions. The don't want the extra responsibility. Occasionally they might pipe-up and make a suggestion.

3. Ignorants
There are some who wouldn't recognise a Chief or Indian if they fell on them. Naturally these people are the happiest.

4. Flexible
Then there's a select few who are comfortable with either role. The can look at the group as a whole and fill whichever gap needs filling. Sometimes they mediate between the other roles.

So, there you have it. 4 groups right?

Wrong! There's one more group.

5. Pretenders
These folk like to pretend that they're Indians. They ask you what you think and then poo poo your idea (as it doesn't agree to theirs). Additionally they don't want to outrightly make a decision because this could lead to things going wrong and them having to accept responsibility (and thus make them a Chief).

So what they do is give a list of reasons for things they won't do and because people tend to want to get along and make sure everyone is happy they end up satisfying the needs of the pretender.

Naturally Pretenders only come into existence when there isn't a Chief.
